Final year Diaries!!
And the day has finally arrived, The last day of my college life. Everybody has different stories and I am here to say my small story. The last day is filled with completely mixed emotions. I am scared,(but not that scared, trying to be confident)to face the real competitive world out there. I am happy at the same time as I am going to be independent and have my pace to decide on my own. From childhood, I have always dreamt myself to be a girl with a white coat and stethoscope, but you know what? Now I am a proud Engineer No one knows what destiny leads to…

Ever since I decided to join engineering, my parents are the ones who believed me that I can still succeed in my career even though I didn’t score the expected marks of them. They left it to my choice whether to join medicine or engineering, they were even ready to sell the house to make me study MBBS. I was confused, I analysed my own capabilities and to be financially independent, I thought engineering to be the right choice and decided to move on. I joined KCG via Anna University Counselling, I don’t have any specific reasons other than counselling to join KCG College. It was actually very far from my home but it was in good rankings.

The first day I joined my college, I was venturing into an absolutely different world that I have never experienced! I saw a kind of strange people all around me looking very professional and beautiful. I was really scared to ask the names of a new person. After the orientation, we were directed to the classes, there was one girl who sat near me, a typical kind of playful girl, named ChandraDivya(CD) was my first official friend from the college. I remember we had a mech lab where we have to do carpentry work such as cutting the wood and welding, I found it difficult to do, a strange girl came forward to help me and now she is one of the thickest friends of mine, her name was a bit different named Kavali Tejasri Sai,we call her teju!!

The first semester I had different happenings in my class, there were scary names for the subjects such as engineering graphics, data structures, programming etc…and some of my classmates dropped out as they didn’t like the course. During those days of lunch breaks, I met two different girls, Carline and Bavi; quite nice and funny girls and they too have taught me great lessons! Janani was one cool kind girl as days passed we all formed a gang and lasted for the four years then till now!!
There are many characters whom I didn’t mention who influenced me a lot, its because I don’t want this blog to be lengthy and make you bored.
Talking about the professors, there are five of them who is my personal favourites; firstly Dr Anita Manuel Mam, my English professor, the reason first I liked her is because she looks fair and speaks English very fluently as a BBC newsreader. Since I have the fear of public speaking, I don’t even mind to give at least a try; those time she encouraged me to participate and learn from that. Whenever I see her as an independent attitude women makes me try hard at least for her words. Secondly, is my networks professor and he was my final year class teacher too, Dr Prabhakaran Sir, one of the best teachers and the way he makes the class interactive and fun is awesome. He treated every single student equally, thus for every one of us in our class he was the most favourite!

Thirdly, I need to mention two people here, Mr VijayaRaghavan Sir seems to be strict but not and he used to solve problems in an easy way, he stands a reason for me to pass my Engineering Mathematics 1 paper in my first semester. He was the only one who believed I am a topper and helped me whenever I approached him. Dr Sivaramakrishnan Das (Das Sir), one of the finest dedicated persons, I have ever seen. I have learnt valuable lessons from him.
Finally, but not least, My HOD Dr KrishnaMurthy Sir was my Data Mining Professor as well as my mentor for my final year project. His signature dialogue is “Pillaigala”(a way to address students). He was the best advisor for us in all activities.
To Sum up a few things, I learnt in my college life is
- Finding Yourself: This is the real power of college: it forces you to find yourself and ask yourself what you want to accomplish not only in the next four years but also in life. You see the point of education is not to fill our minds with useless facts, many of which we will never use again — as classes force us to do — but rather to inspire us to love learning, and more importantly to help us find what we’ll do with our time on our pale blue dot. It really doesn’t matter “where you go”; the experience will fundamentally be the same.
- Challenge Hard Situations: Now don’t get me wrong: college isn’t as rosy as I’ve painted it. Bad stuff happens, no matter all these problems, for some reason there is still hope. Everything is going to be all right. See, college puts you into this trance of safety and happiness — this trance that you’ll go home every night, you’ll work hard, you’ll have fun, you’ll graduate, and everything will work out at the end.
- Friends: College life is truly about friendship, and that is why it is depicted in so many of the movies. College puts a lot of pressure by exposing you to several tests, projects, presentations, job searches and many other things. But, what makes the ride easy is the presence of your friends. These set of friends will be like your second family who will get you through all your bad times, whether you had a bad break up or you got rejected by your dream company. These years teach you a lot about human behaviour when you realise who your true friends are and who you thought were your friends only to find out otherwise. It is true when they say that your college friends are friends for life because they are ones who will help you be who you are today and will even continue to make sure your further journey is smooth.
- GPA does matter: It’s personally I faced it. At the end of the day, this is indeed an engineering college and people expect certain things out of you. As much as you want to hear that it doesn’t matter, it does. I personally have lost many opportunities for internship and placements though I qualified all levels. However, the perception of what a ‘good’ number varies and is influenced by what your career goal is.
- It is NEVER the end: There is never an end, and at times like these is when your degree of perseverance is shown. During the end of my third year, the word ‘internship’ becomes a chant, and people start searching for it like it is the Philosopher’s Stone. You will feel like you are lost in a sea of sending emails, rejections and doing things you don’t want to. But it’s not the end. Fourth-year will hit you in the face with placements, projects and your semester exams. This is when most of you might buckle under pressure, and also when you shouldn’t. The same cycle of rejections, interviews and essays will happen repeatedly, and I myself fell into depression at times. However, you have to move on. This is when I would suggest you go for a trip alone, meet new people, learn more about yourself and come back with a sense of new beginning.

Very quickly, we will realize that whatever happens, our great world will just keep spinning. You may fail a course. You may lose your best friend. You may find your dream job. Whatever happens, college helps you realize that life is beautiful and that even though you may be one in a hundred million, you have a chance to leave your mark. You leave each semester rosy-cheeked and optimistic about the future.
A clique of friends crowd inside a room whose four walls somehow make our worlds seem finite. Basically, your last day makes you realize that the things you often took for granted would earn their value once you know that you can’t come back there with the same reason anymore!
To end, at least at some point everyone wishes to relive their college days. The young and wild days.
And I am not an exception for it too! Thanks for your patience to read it fully…
